📰 Tamim Iqbal Undergoes Emergency Angioplasty After Suffering Heart Attack During Dhaka Premier League Match

 Bangladesh cricket star Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match in Savar on Monday. The former Bangladesh captain, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club, was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he underwent emergency angioplasty.










🚑 Tamim Collapses During the Match

The incident occurred during the first innings of the match. Tamim fielded for just one over before complaining of chest discomfort. He left the field and visited the nearby KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home (formerly Fazilatunnesa Hospital) for medical attention.

According to Montu Dutta, the BKSP chief cricket coach, Tamim appeared fine during the toss.

🗨️ "He was in good spirits, but after he felt unwell, he decided to leave the field and see a doctor," Dutta said.

Initially, the doctors were hesitant to let Tamim leave the hospital. However, he insisted on returning to the ground. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated rapidly, forcing the Mohammedan team physio to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) on him.

🏥 Rushed to Hospital in Critical Condition

As Tamim's condition worsened, an air ambulance was arranged to transport him to Dhaka. However, due to his critical condition, the medical team decided against moving him. Instead, he was rushed back to KPJ Hospital, where doctors discovered a blockage in his arteries.

Dr. Rajib Hasan, a cardiologist at KPJ Hospital, confirmed the diagnosis.

🗨️ "We detected a blockage in his arteries and immediately performed an angioplasty. The procedure was successful, and Tamim is now under observation in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU)."

The hospital later confirmed that Tamim had regained consciousness and spoken to a family member. He will remain in the CCU for the next 48 hours, with doctors closely monitoring his recovery.

💬 BCB and Cricket Community Show Support

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cancelled its scheduled directors' meeting upon learning of Tamim's condition.
BCB President Faruque Ahmed issued a statement, expressing gratitude towards the medical staff and assuring full support for Tamim's recovery.

🗨️ "We are deeply grateful to the doctors and specialists for their swift action in this critical situation. The outpouring of concern for Tamim shows how much he is loved by the nation. The BCB will ensure he receives the best care and support for a full recovery."

BCB officials, including chief executive Nizamuddin Ahmed and director Akram Khan (Tamim's uncle), visited the hospital.

Later in the day, Tamim's teammates, including Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taijul Islam, also visited him.

🏏 Tamim’s Recent Cricket Form

Despite retiring from international cricket in January 2025, Tamim continued to play in domestic leagues.

  • He recently led Fortune Barishal to a second successive BPL title.

  • In the ongoing Dhaka Premier League, he had already scored two centuries and guided Mohammedan Sporting Club to six wins in eight matches.
